 | The US GeoGen® Project is a national project designed to combine
the hobbies of genealogy and electronic orienteering. Most everyone
who has performed genealogical research has spent time driving around
looking for cemeteries and other historical sites and monuments.
Electronic orienteering is the use of global positioning devices (GPS)
and maps to find out of the way trails, engage in
Geocaching, or compete in
orienteering contests. |
 | The goal of the project is to create a national network of county
oriented pages listing locations of interest to the genealogist along
with their geographical coordinates, so those researchers that follow
can easily find the locations. |
 | The Project is the creation of Bob Maley. Bob has been the host
of the US GenWeb Project's Dauphin County page since September 1996.
He also is the county coordinator for the Dauphin, Lebanon &
Northumberland pages of the US Biographies Project, the county
coordinator for the Dauphin County page of the Migrations Project,
the Maryland State Coordinator for the US Biographies Project, the
coordinator for the Dauphin County Transcription Project and the
webmaster for the online Historical Atlases for Dauphin, Lancaster
and Berks County. After adopting a five year old son, he became
involved in the treasure hunting sport known as GeoCaching and
realized the potential benefit to genealogists searching for remote
and ancestral cemeteries. The US GeoGen® Project is the result of
combining the fun of orienteering with a GPS and genealogy research. |
