Swimmer dies after he’s pulled from ocean at Cape Hatteras

CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. (WAVY) — A 61-year-old died man while swimming in the Atlantic Ocean at Cape Hatteras National Seashore on Sunday.

Officials say a 911 call was placed to Dare County Dispatch at 5:25 p.m. when a person saw the man in apparent distress out in the water near Hatteras Village.

Hurricane Dorian ‘could plow right through NC,’ Cooper warns

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Governor Roy Cooper has declared a state of emergency as Hurricane Dorian appears to be approaching North Carolina.

“This thing could plow right through North Carolina. It could be a very dangerous storm,” Cooper said. “Whatever comes, we will be ready.”

Dorian lashes Bahamas as winds weaken slightly; NC coast remains in forecast track

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Dorian made landfall in the Abacos Islands of the Bahamas on Sunday as a historic storm.

Maximum sustained winds earlier in the day were recorded for several hours at 185 mph, which ties Dorian for the second strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean.
