ZANESVILLE – The Muskingum County Library System has announced activities and programs for October for the John McIntire Library and its branches. 

John McIntire Library

Family Game Day will feature the game Vanquish the Monster from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 5. Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati will present “Dorothy of Oz” from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16. Family Flicks will have a PG rated movie from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19. Nightmare on North Fifth Street will feature a costume parade, haunted house, games, stories and more from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 26. 

LED pumpkin craft for kids ages 3 to 9 will be at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 3 with putting a light inside a Styrofoam pumpkin. Creepy Campfire Tales from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 4 at Mission Oaks Gardens will feature stories around a campfire, treats and scarecrow beauty contest. Life as a Pioneer for homeschool students ages 5 to 12 will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 18 with learning about daily life of a pioneer child. Drop In and Draw Inktober Workshop for teens and tweens to develop drawing skills at 2 p.m. Oct. 5. Learn 3-D printing basics at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 10. A Harry Potter themed cooking class for teens will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 19. 

commUNITYread book discussion on “Ohio” by Stephen Markley will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 2. Author Jane Ann Turzillo will share stories about Wicked Women of Ohio at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 8 for a lunch and learn program. Randy Tompkins shares Vietnam War era stories and experiences at 6 p.m. Oct. 10. Pete Cultice will share the founding of Zanesville with “A Tale of Two Rivers” at 6 p.m. Oct. 15. John McIntire Day featuring a salute to the library’s namesake and other founding pioneers of Zanesville with a variety of programs and treats will be throughout the day Oct. 15. Learn the basics of Hoopla in downloading ebooks, music and movies at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 17. Find out what your antiques are worth with an appraisal of up to three items at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17. A pizza lunch with the assembly of care packages for military troops will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19. Stephen Markley will speak on his book “Ohio” as part of the commUNITYread project from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at Secrest Auditorium. A genealogy workshop on using DNA will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 26. 

Dresden Branch

Program on bats from Ohio Nature Education at 6 p.m. Oct. 7. Pumpkin decorating class for ages 3 to 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19. Dresden Anime Club meeting at 4 p.m. Oct. 16. A movie night will be at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 21. commUNITYread book discussion on “Ohio” by Stephen Markley will be at 4 p.m. Oct. 18.  

Duncan Falls/Philo Branch

Animals We Love to Hate for ages 5 to 12 will be at 6 pm. Oct. 15 with talk of bats, spiders and snakes. Kayla Watts of Century National Bank will present Money 101 for Kids for ages 5 to 9 at 6 p.m. Oct. 22. Jim Kleefeld will tell about haunts around Ohio at 6 p.m. Oct. 16. Genealogy workshop on World War I ancestors is at 6 p.m. Oct. 7. A fall scarecrow craft will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 21. Jack Drake, commander of the Duncan Falls/Philo VFW post will share stories on his military experiences at 6 p.m. Oct. 23. Adult book discussion at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 29 on “Shine” by Lauren Myracle. 

New Concord Branch

Family Movie Night with popcorn from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18. Children’s Book Discussion on “I Survived the Children’s Blizzard, 1888,” by Lauren Tarshis at 4 p.m. Oct. 11. Ages 3 to 12 can participate in the Great Pumpkin Decorating Showdown from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 25. Adult book discussion on “The Alice Network” by Kate Quinn at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9. Randy Tompkins will share stories of his military service at 6 p.m. Oct. 16. Chef Bill Bird will teach the art of vegetable carving at 6 p.m. Oct. 23. 

Roseville Branch

Family Movie Night with popcorn at 6 p.m. Oct. 8. Bird feeder craft for kids at 7 p.m. Oct. 17. A presentation by the Roseville Police Department on the state drug epidemic will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 16. Color Me Happy adult coloring club at 3 p.m. Oct. 17.

South Branch

Wild Canids of North America presentation at 5 p.m. Oct. 2 with Ironwood Wolves. Family movie night with popcorn from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23. K-Pop Party with Korean snacks for youth from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 16. Muskingum County Behavioral Health will discuss resources available to those in recovery and their loved ones at 6 p.m. Oct. 1. Beth Brown will talk on decorating with air plants at 5 p.m. Oct. 15.
