Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem announced on June 4 the official launch of its initiative to bring complimentary whole genome sequencing to 10,000 eligible primary care patients.
The DNA10K pilot program, which was unveiled earlier this year, is part of NorthShore’s partnership with Color, a Burlingame, Calif.-based population genomics company. New and existing NorthShore patients who opt into the program will receive free access to Color’s genetic testing and whole genome sequencing, which regularly retail for $249, as well as access to NorthShore and Color’s genetic counselors and clinical pharmacists.
Genomic test results will be integrated into each patient’s electronic health record and made available for review by NorthShore’s physicians in order to provide insight on genetic makeup, pharmacogenomics and risk factors for hereditary cancers and heart disease. This information will inform more personalized treatment plans to ensure better outcomes, prevention and overall health for each patient.
