Gardai will compare an enhanced DNA sample taken from the remains of Baby John, whose body was found on a Kerry beach in 1984, against those provided voluntarily by local women in an effort to solve the case that has haunted the force for decades.
The remains of Baby John were exhumed from Holy Cross Cemetery in Cahersiveen on Tuesday to extract a full DNA profile. The force had been using an incomplete DNA sample taken from a bloodied tissue found at the scene which had been used to wipe the infant’s body.
The use of a full spectrum DNA profile might not identify the dead baby’s parents but it may help identify his extended family. If a partial match was found, it might allow
