CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)-  Black History is American history and the month of February is dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the many accomplishments, inventions, and life work of Black Americans past, present and future.

In Clarksville, many activities are planned to commemorate Black History Month.

Black History Meet and Greet: African-Americans and the Vote,  Saturday, Feb. 1., Meet and Greet begins at 5 p.m,  program beginning at 6 p.m. For more information click here.

Black History Month Kickoff Luncheon,  Monday, Feb. 3rd, 11 a.m. – 12:30 pm, Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center, Austin Peay State University, Catered by Dickey’s BBQ. For more information click here.

Genealogy Classes,  The Clarksville-Montgomery County Library will host free African American Genealogy classes on Feb. 8., from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Young Adult “Spill the Tea” Natural Hair Event  A casual conversation about natural hair, Saturday, Feb. 8, 10 a.m to 12 p.m., Makeda Street, 1885 Fort Campbell Boulevard Suite #C  Buy tickets here.

Tango as African Diasporic Dance–    Collaborative event with the APSU African American Studies Department and the Hispanic Cultural Center, the event is to create awareness and educate the campus about the African Diaspora/ Slave Trade and the influence of African Culture within Hispanic Culture and Dance. NAACP 18th Annual Day on the Hill, The annual Day On The Hill, the NAACP takes children to Capitol Hill in Nashville to see/talk with their Legislators. Modern Day Slavery Forum,  Collaborative event with APSU African American Studies Department to create a dialogue around the existence of modern-day slavery in today’s world, from the music industry to sports, to the blue-collar work population.  Thursday, Feb. 20,  11 a.m. – 2 p.m.,  at the Wilbur N. Makeda Street: The All Black Editon Open Mic– Celebrate Black History Month wearing all black head to toe. Welcoming poets giving tribute to some remarkable people, places, and things.  Thursday, Feb. 20, 6 p.m to 9 p.m., 1885 Fort Campbell Boulevard Suite #C. Buy tickets here.

Night of Melanin Magic, Collaborative event with the APSU Dance department. The event is an opportunity to see the artistic interpretation of being Black in American, a celebration of Melanin and the talents black people share. Filled with Dance, Song, Poetry, and other forms of Art. Monday, Feb. 24th,  Clement Auditorium, APSU, 7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Miss Black Clarksville Scholarship Pageant– The Miss Black Clarksville Scholarship Pageant 2020 will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at Kenwood High School, 251 East Pine Mountain Road, Clarksville, TN 37042. Contestants will be judged on sportswear, talent, evening wear, and on-stage interviews. The contestants are also required to select a platform they feel strongly about and support it through community service.

Advance tickets $15.00 and tickets at the door $20.00  Tickets will be available on Eventbrite.

A showcasing of the Miss Black Clarksville Scholarship Contestants will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at 12 p.m. The contestants will be modeling Belk’s Fashions. It will take place at the Belk’s Mall entrance inside of Governor Square Mall. The public is invited and can donate to benefit the Scholarship Program.
