–Forty-five current students and recent graduates of Wyoming Seminary have been named AP Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP (Advanced Placement) Examinations.
Students take AP examinations in May after completing challenging college-level courses at their high schools. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of year-long courses and exams (or their equivalent semester-long courses and exams).
Sixteen Sem students qualified for the AP Scholar With Distinction award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Students who graduated in May, 2019 are: Yuhan Bao, Beijing, China P.R.C.; Aoying Cen, Beijing, China P.R.C.; Jiayi Li, Urumqi, China P.R.C.; Yun-Chun Lu, Taichung City, Taiwan R.O.C.; Zane Nardone, Shavertown; Pierce Phillips, Chester, N.J.; Jacob Stefanowicz, Harveys Lake; Jiarui Tang, Beijing, China P.R.C.; Xinran Zhang, Beijing, China P.R.C.; and Wanshuang Zheng, Shenzhen, China P.R.C. Current Sem seniors who earned this distinction as juniors are Po-Tsun Chen, Suzhou, China P.R.C.; Yifei Chen, Beijing, China P.R.C.; Zhenying Chen, Shanghai, China P.R.C.; Tianwei Li, Shenzhen, China P.R.C.; Emily Urbanski, Mountain Top; and Lixiang Yin, Shanghai, China P.R.C.
Ten students qualified for the AP Scholar With Honor award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of those exams. Students who graduated in May, 2019 are: Jessica Kilyanek, Hughestown; Yijia Liu, Beijing, China P.R.C.; An Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; and Kylie Seyler, Wilkes-Barre. Current Sem seniors who earned this distinction as juniors are Nicole Amoachi, Shavertown; Jared Bozinko, Mountain Top; Felix Hammond, Wilkes-Barre; Jessica Kishbaugh, Bloomsburg; Charles Kutz, North Abington Township; and Rounak Lele, Pittston.
Nineteen students qualified for the AP Scholar award by completing three or more AP Examinations with grades of 3 or higher. Students who graduated in May, 2019 are: Sophia Adeghe, Bloomsburg; Patrick Andes, Bear Creek; Dat Dang, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Sophie Guichardan, Drums; Harrison Kayton, Kingston; Molly Leahy, Wilkes-Barre; Moyasar Osman, Bloomsburg; Isidra Reitsma, Forty Fort; Nikko Simons, Kingston; Joonghun Sung, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea; and Shilei Zhang, Beijing, China P.R.C. Current Sem seniors who earned this distinction as juniors are Aishani Chauhan, Shavertown; Philip Gristina, Pittston; Zehao Guo, Shanghai, China P.R.C.; Edward Jang, Seoul, South Korea; Adam Rogers, Kingston; Kyra Stella, Wilkes-Barre; and Caitlyn Walker, Hatboro. Earning this distinction as a sophomore is Xiyue Tan, Zhengzhou, China P.R.C.
Most of the nation’s colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement or both based on successful performance on the AP Exam. More than 3,100 institutions award credits to students presenting a sufficient number of qualifying grades. There are 34 AP Examinations offered in a wide variety of subject areas, each consisting of multiple-choice and essay or problem-solving questions except for the Studio Art exam which evaluates students’ original artwork.
