Rautahat District Administration has sought a report of DNA test before handing over a child, who was found 14 months after he went missing to the family claiming the child.
Chandeswor Baitha’s youngest son Avinash, 6, of Padariya Tole at Chandrapur Municipality-10 went missing on 14 June 2018.

After the family heard that Avinash had been found a few days ago, the family was elated. Then, the family registered an application with Chandranigahapur Area Police Office to receive the boy.
Rautahat DAO has issued an order to the Baitha family to receive the child only after DNA test as Ramlochan Mahato of Mahottari district also registered an application with the police claiming that the boy was the son of his daughter.
Rajkishor Mahato had spotted the boy at Katahariya Municipality a few days ago. Mahato had reported to the Women Cell of Garuda Area Police Office immediately. The child was handed over to the police, but he was handed back to Mahato as the child refused to stay with the police.
Chandeswor complained that the administration had meted out torture when he visited the police office to receive the child with evidences. “I was not given my son even after I submitted his birth registration, the ward office’s recommendation and the school’s recommendation,” Baitha bemoaned.
Police, however, argued that it was a very difficult task to hand over the child simply because somebody staked claim.
Rautahat CDO Kiran Thapa said that his office had directed that the DNA be matched first before handing over the boy to the family as he had not recognised his parents. “The child has not recognised his parents. Thus, it will be appropriate to hand over the boy only after the DNA test is conducted,” CDO Thapa added.
