DNA evidence has led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Raceland man suspected of several Raceland vehicle burglaries, authorities said.

Tyrese Thomas is charged with six counts of simple burglary of a motor vehicle and two counts of attempted simple burglary, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Several vehicle burglaries were reported on the morning of April 25 in the area of La. 653 in Raceland, the Sheriff’s Office said. Several valuable items were reported stolen during the burglaries.

Deputies responded to the burglaries and DNA evidence was gathered and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, authorities said. The test results identified Thomas as the suspect, police said.

During questioning Tuesday, Thomas admitted to his involvement in the crimes, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish jail, where he was released Wednesday after posting a $35,000 bond.

The burglaries remain under investigation and detectives believe Thomas did not act alone, the Sheriff’s Office said. Anyone with additional information on other possible suspects is asked to submit an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip at 1-800-743-7433 or online at www.crimestoppersbr.org.
